Aniela Hoitink - Mycelium

Aniela Hoitink has created a textile out of an mushroom mycelium, which is the thread-like body of a fungus. Aniela has researched and developed mycelium to ensure its 100% biodegradable, and does not require additional binders.

The Dutch Designers has showcased her advanced textile in the design of a unique dress. The dress is constructed of disc-shaped pieces of mushroom mycelium, and is meant to appear like an extension of skin.

“I aim to change the way we use textiles,” she said. “By altering or adding properties to textile, we can investigate how we will use textiles in the future and what the related implications will be.”
