Marmoleum Cocoa is a sustainable and repurposed flooring cladding developed by Forbo Flooring. To produce cocoa, cocoa beans are extracted from their husks to be ground into cocoa powder, these husks are typically separated during processing and discarded as a by product of chocolate production. Rather than allowing this overlooked material to leave the production cycle, Forbo repurposes these husks by finely grinding them down and incorporating them into the flooring along side other recycled materials such as wood flour and uplifted post consumer flooring.

The flooring is the result of a collaboration between Forbo Flooring and Dutch-founded social enterprise Kumasi Commodity Innovations. While Forbo Flooring repurposes surplus cocoa shells within its flooring production, Kumasi uses cocoa fruit juice to create its beverages. Through its partnership with Kumasi, Forbo Flooring sources cocoa shells in a way that supports and directly benefits cocoa farming communities.
Designed for recycling and reuse, Marmoleum Cocoa gestures towards a material cycle where food waste is not an endpoint, but a resource carried forward into a new application.
