Finite has been produced as a low carbon alternative to standard concrete.
The world is facing a construction-grade sand shortage, which is an essential ingredient in concrete and the concrete industry is one of the largest producers of carbon dioxide in the world.
In search of a sustainable alternative a group from Imperial College London came up with Finite. Finite is primarily made of Desert Sand, which is an abundant resource and previously discarded as too fine and intricate to work with. The Desert Sand is then blended with an eco-friendly binder. The blending process does not require extreme temperatures and ultimately Finite has less than half the carbon footprint of standard concrete.
