Heracleum Mantegazzianum or commonly known as Hogweed is an invasive plant that was introduced to Europe during the Victorian Era. Atelier Schaft has reconfigured Hogweed to be an alternative sustainable foam, veneer and cardboard. The process involves boiling down the knots of the plant in a mixture of H20 and Na2c03 to create a paste like material. The finer parts of the plant are cut by hand into several strokes to create a surface covering texture.
