PineSkins by Studio Sarmite turns bark, (a by-product from the existing pine tree-cutting industry) into a leather-like material. Once harvested the bark is soaked in bio-softening solution and then coated with wax to ensure its durable. Natural colour pigments are then added to turn the bark into a range of neutral tones. Sarmite Polakova has proved the potential of PineSkins in her own collection of vases, vessels and rugs made and inspired by the lines and shapes of trees in forests.
