Plastex – Black Matter is a cellulose-based material created from bioplastic and locally sourced charcoal. To create objects, the mixture is then applied to hemp fabric and left out to dry. Austėja Platūkytė designed Black Matter as research project at Umeå University in Sweden. The objects made of Black Matter material are long-lasting and sustainable, but after long use, the objects can be separated so the organic fabric and bio-plastic can be re-used without any waste or environmental impact.
