Work Shop | Low Key
Fiona Lynch Office
NGV Melbourne Design Week 2025

Established in 2019, the Work Shop series was born from within Fiona Lynch Office as a space for experimentation, collaboration, and creative enquiry—an internal dialogue where materials could be tested, ideas stretched, and process valued over outcome. What began as a studio-based ritual has since grown into a public platform, offering space for emerging and established designers to reflect, contribute, and share.

This year’s edition, Low Key, is a continuation of that spirit—an exhibition shaped by subtlety, precision, and the strength of small gestures. It offers no overarching theme or conceptual brief. Instead, each participating designer was asked to present a single piece made in the past year: one object, one idea, one material investigation.

The works—ranging from functional to sculptural—are bound not by typology, but by ethos. Resisting spectacle, yet reward attention. They speak through texture,
tone and craft.

This is an exhibition about process, intimacy, and restraint. About the value of work that often goes unseen. It invites the viewer to slow down, to observe, and to appreciate the beauty in making—uncomplicated, unhurried, and deeply considered.
