The design response to the setting – in the new retail precinct overlooking the historic Queen Vic Market Food Hall on Peel Street – is rational and bold, with a concept inspired by the sociable interactions of the food hall and the European influences of the market and the owners’ heritage.

Characterised by block shapes, clean lines and raw materials, interior design is stripped back, relaxed and honest, drawing primarily on stone, brass and timber. Informal, European-style benches overlook the market and its daily hustle, while custom-designed flexible seating cultivates a sense of community.
Natural materials throughout create tactility and warmth, including Italian marble and reclaimed Oregon. Luxurious touches of polished brass, leather and craft lighting transition the space from a local café to a stylish neighbourhood bar come evening. The glamorous bar, showcasing contrasting colours and grains of Travertine and stone, is a highlight.
Connecting the convivial spirit of the heritage market with the new mixed-use development sets to create a vibrant community destination in this beloved corner of Melbourne – at once distinctly Australian yet offering a traditional European welcome.
