Carpet Matter is a collection of tables made by Riccardo Cenedella from carpet offcuts. The aim of the project is to raise awareness around carpet waste and how something seen as “invaluable” can be repurposed into some new. Historically the main fiber used in carpet has been wool but more recently synthetic fibers have been added. Unfortunately the addition of fibers such as nylon and polypropylene have made carpet more difficult to decompose and ultimately only a small portion of it is fully recycled. The UK alone produces around 400,000 tonnes of carpet waste each year.
