The Hajar Chair is a collaborative creation between Architecture + Other Things and the Irthi Contemporary Crafts Council, developed during the “Safeefah x Sand Casting” Design Lab. This piece seamlessly blends traditional Emirati craftsmanship with contemporary design. Utilizing a unique mixture of water, sand, concrete, clay, and soil, the chair is sand-casted to form a rock-like structure. Complementing its robust form, the seat features camel leather woven using the Safeefah technique by artisans from Irthi’s Bidwa Social Development Programme. The Hajar Chair stands as a symbol of sustainable practices and the preservation of cultural heritage through innovative design.
