Søuld is a Danish material manufacturer that develops acoustic and interior building products from eelgrass, a renewable marine plant traditionally used in Danish construction. Founded in 2010, the company has spent more than a decade researching and refining eelgrass-based materials as a sustainable alternative to conventional acoustic panels and synthetic building products.

Harvested from local coastal environments and processed into high-performance interior surfaces, Søuld’s eelgrass panels combine natural aesthetics with functional benefits. The material offers excellent acoustic absorption, thermal insulation, and moisture-regulating properties, while remaining highly fire-resistant and free from harmful chemicals. Its organic texture and subtle connection to the coastal landscape create interior environments that promote comfort, wellbeing, and a closer relationship with nature.

By reintroducing and modernising a 400-year-old Danish eelgrass building tradition, Søuld demonstrates how locally sourced natural materials can be adapted for contemporary architecture and design. The panels also contribute to lower environmental impact through renewable sourcing, recyclability, and carbon storage, positioning eelgrass as a viable material within circular and regenerative construction systems. The project reflects Søuld’s ongoing commitment to developing healthy, low-impact building materials that support both environmental sustainability and human wellbeing.
