Vestre is the world’s first furniture company to produce fossil-free steel. Steel is crucial in construction and development but it is also responsible for significant carbon dioxide emissions. Vestre have confronted this issue by using green hydrogen instead of coal for heat to ensure no carbon dioxide is released. “Early estimates show that converting all our steel to fossil-free could reduce our overall footprint by around 60 percent,” said Vestre chief sustainability officer Øyvind Bjørnstad. The Tellus bench has been designed to feel inviting with wide armrests and soft undulating forms.
