“This is Copper” by Studio ThusThat is a series of furniture and accessories made from copper waste. In particular the collection is made from slag, which is a by-product created during the copper smelting process. Studio ThusThat worked in close collaboration with material scientists to explore ways in which slag can be converted into a low-C02 cement binder, known as a “geopolymer”. This series showcases slag as a geopolymer concrete with highlights in hammered copper, a technique of traditional copper smithing.
